Hamburg Disc Golf League
The Hamburg Disc Golf League invites every disc golf fan to join a special tournament series. Clubs from City Nord, Norderstedt, Volkspark and Wilhelmsburg host four handicap tournaments every month, where thanks to the handicap system, everyone can win regardless of skill level. The goal is to improve your game, gain tournament experience, and help grow disc golf in Hamburg together. Whether you just picked up disc golf or have been playing for years – the league welcomes everyone who wants to join in!
Whoever wins a tournament usually receives a winner's disc as a keepsake. Club members also have the chance to win bag tags, which are re-awarded at every tournament and can be kept as a memento at the end of the season.
The highlight of the league is the annual final on October 3rd, hosted on the course of the previous year's winning club. The 36 top-scoring players who have played all four courses at least once qualify for this closing tournament.

What is a handicap tournament?
A handicap tournament lets players of different skill levels compete on equal footing. What counts isn't your absolute throw count, but your performance relative to your own usual level. If you play noticeably better than usual on the day, you have a real shot at winning – no matter your starting level. This is calculated using your personal Metrix rating, which is usually determined after your second or third tournament, once you've played enough holes. You can find all the details here.
How does a tournament work?
A tournament day follows a clear routine: first you check in with the tournament director, then things kick off with the shared players' meeting. After that, you play one to three rounds, depending on the course, in fixed groups known as flights. At the end, everyone comes together once more for the awards ceremony.
Is there an entry fee and prizes?
Taking part costs an entry fee of 1 euro. You can optionally join the ace pool for another 1 euro. Please bring the exact amount, as it's collected on site. The tournament winner usually receives a disc as the winner's prize.
How do bag tags work?
There are two kinds of bag tags: league bag tags, which you can carry if you're a member of a club from Hamburg or Norderstedt, and club-internal bag tags, whose rules each club sets itself – usually modeled on the league rules. At official tournaments, all bag tags are collected at the start and reassigned at the end: the best player gets the bag tag with the lowest number, the second-best gets the next lowest, and so on.
There are also “private challenges”: the goal is to win your opponent's bag tag. If you're challenged, you must accept a match outside an official round – regardless of the course – at the latest after the second challenge from the same player. The rules of play (e.g. Closest to the Pin, the 18-basket City Nord layout, Longest Throw) must be agreed in advance with the consent of the bag tag holder with the lower number. If you win, you take over their bag tag number; in case of a tie, a tiebreaker decides, or the lower bag tag is considered successfully defended. Any deviating rules require the consent of all players.
